I'm so very excited to welcome Stacy on board as my new email assistant!! Stacy is my sister in law. She's a sweet, down to earth, super smart, crafty gal.
She saw my post from last week, and called me to say she was looking for something to do at home to earn a bit of extra money. A match made in Heaven!!

I'm starting her out slow with thank you and confirmation emails and renewing listings to make sure the inventory stays stocked, but she is one smart cookie and will be taking over most of the emails this month!!

Give her a warm welcome!

Where oh where did October go? It feels like I blinked and November popped up to say Hello!
It was a crazy busy month filled with birthdays, and injuries (ouch I sliced my finger open!), Holiday trunk shows, traveling, costumes, and candy, oh way too much Candy. In addition My wonderful assistant LeAnn was offered a full time job at the elementary school, so I am on the hunt for a new assistant to take over emails. It's been a bumpy start.

One of the highlights of October was my sweet friend April asked me if I would come out to Utah to sell my pretties at the Spark Handmade Market. It was a whirlwind trip but so nice to catch up with old friends and to get a chance to make some new ones.

I was lucky enough to have a table next to the amazingly talented Kristin of Faded Prairie

She is such a genuine down to earth sweetheart! And her blog! Oh my word talk about eye candy. It's chalked full of vintage rustic prairie goodness!

Birthday Cheesecakes

were in the middle of what we call "birthday season" in the cinnamon*sticks house hold. We have 3 of the kids birthdays 2 weeks apart each, then our anniversary (10 years this year!!) then Thanks Giving followed by my hubby's birthday, and then Christmas. Add in several extended family birthday's in the mix and it gets super busy with parties.

Last week we celebrated with Thomas who request cheesecake for his Party.
I made Roasted Strawberry Cheesecake

Pumpkin Cheese cake (every one's favorite)

and Chocolate and vanilla bean cheese cake.

I'll write up recipes when I have a chance and share them here :)

This was a special request for an extra thick extra heavy sterling ring with 3 copper hardware plates. I love the way it looks!

I was so honored to create a set of wedding rings for a sweet couple :) This was "His" wedding band.

And last but no at all least, My PMC pieces are some of my all time favorites to create. Each one comes out so unique with lovely rustic character. This was a custom twist on my Rustic Love necklace.

The Sunday Yummies...Sunday baking

If you are on Pinterest you have seen This recipe for Blueberry Buttermilk Breakfast Cake. I don't think there are too many out there that have not pinned it!
We had a ton of berries in the Fridge and 2 cartons of buttermilk that weren't going to last past the weekend so I decided to give it a try.
Oh My Word! It was delicious! I had a small piece last night, and the kids devoured the rest this morning.

We made the Blueberry Version, just as the recipe shows. I also had Raspberries and Blackberries to use up so I made a Raspberry version but in place of the lemon zest I used orange.

I'm thinking next week we may make a nuttella version with out berries.

Guest Post Recipe

Tomorrow is the First Official day of Fall. I LOVE fall. Out here in Southern California we don't get the Glorious display of foliage that so many other parts of the country get to enjoy. But we still get to pick apples, harvest pumpkins, cuddle up under blankies and sip Caramel Apple Cider. Dig out the warmer sweaters, and pull on a comfy pair of boots!

I also Adore making soups. They are the perfect fall meal. I experiment each season with new and old recipes. On Monday I made "Baked potato soup" It's rich and hearty. Not a diet soup for sure, but so flavorful and yummy. I made a full 6 quart pot thinking I would serve one half and freeze the second half. The kids ate it ALL!
Guess it's a make again recipe for sure!

I did a guest post for my sweet Friend Tracy of Creme De La Gems who is moving today from Central California back down towards San Diego. Head on over and check out her blog for the recipe. Our Summer Adventure part 2

This was by far one of my favorite stops on the trip. I'm a big geology buff. I love rock formations and geological history. I'm just nerdy like that. :)

The Craters of the Moon National Monument is an expansive area of old lava flow and cinder cones. Speckled through out the black and reddish landscape are the most beautiful and delicate wildflowers.

We hiked to the top of one of the larger cinder cones and took in the view of the whole valley.

The kids liked the trip down the cinder cone much better than the climb up!

All of our National Parks have a Junior Ranger program. The kids loved each program. Once they completed their workbooks they were sworn in as official Junior Rangers and received badges.

Next I'll share about the Grand Tetons.

The Sunday Yummies

Sauce sauce and more sauce!

Since I have so many meals still ready to go in my freezer I decided to stock up on more Tomato Sauce.
This is my basic easy recipe That I came up with after combining tips from several sources and years of experimenting.

What you'll need

One whole medium to large brown onion
One whole head of garlic
1/4 cup olive oil
red pepper flake ( I use about a tsp)
1/2 to 1 cup red wine. (I don't know a whole lot about wine, I use Chianti because I like the flavor in this sauce)
~4 cans Roma tomatoes liquid and all
~salt to taste (it's a large pot of sauce so add some taste and see how much more you need. I didn't measure sorry!
~1/8 cup sugar to cut the acidity a bit.

In a large stock pot (I use my 6 quart dutch oven)

~Heat your oil
~add your chopped onions and saute until soft and starting to gently brown
~mince or crush the garlic and add in once onion is soft.
~sprinkle in your pepper flake
~Add your red wine (you can leave the wine out if you don't consume alcohol, the alcohol does cook out fully)
~Puree your tomatoes and add them in.
~add salt to taste
~add sugar
~bring to a boil
~once boiling reduce to simmer, partially cover and simmer for 3-4 hours.
~The longer you simmer the sauce the richer the flavor. I cook mine a full 4 hours.

Once it's cooked divide it out into servings per meal cool completely and freeze!

Easy Peasy and so yummy!

You can also change things up a bit by adding veggies, or leaving out the red pepper, or add in Ricotta or heavy cream for a richer sauce.

The Sunday Yummies....I know it's Thursday!

This was a huge week in the cinnamon*stick's house hold.
All my babies are in school 5 days a week.
I agonized all summer over putting Mr. N. in PreSchool. He told me, daily, he wanted to go to school like his bothers and sisters. I kept thinking, he's sooo young, is he really ready?
We decided to put him in for 2 days a week, and see how he did. I was sure as thrilled as he was when we told him he was going to go to school, that the second the door closed and he realized, "I'm going to school, with out mom?!" I was sure he would break down be nervous, maybe even cry.
Turns out it was just me. Me, walking away from the class room, ready to cry, because my baby went off to preschool and is just fine, with out his mommy.
In fact he has done so well, and he is so very happy being able to play, with other kiddies his age, that I gave in and we enrolled him for the 5 day program.
He's loving it!

With everyone in school, and Rob back to work and getting ready to start a full load of night classes again I got a bit over ambitious with my meal planning.

Instead of cooking for the week, I cooked for most of the month.

It was 2 solid days of cooking but has paid off big time so far and I know it will continue to through out the month.

It was quite a bit so I'm only going to post a couple of recipes but if you see something you want to try just let me know and I'll share the recipe.

So here is what I made....

Pork Verde
Pork chops smothered in Mushroom bacon Sherry Gravy
red Chicken enchiladas
Sour cream and green chili enchiladas
Apple meat loaf
Mexican meat loaf
Pizza dough 3 enough for 3 meals
A huge batch of Tomato Sauce
Meatballs
Chicken Chili
Corkscrew Pasta with Chicken and Fire roasted tomato cream sauce
Ground Beef
Oven Roasted carnitas (enough for 4 meals)
4 whole chickens ready for more recipes
Peach cobbler
Blue berry scones

All of these were prepped and frozen ready for the month!

Pork Verde Trying to figure out how my mom use to make it. My own recipe

~Any cut of slow cooking pork will work I used about 4-5 pound of country style pork ribs Cut into chunks
~Veggie Olil
~1-2 pounds fresh tomatillos ( depending on how much pork you are using) Husks removed washed and dried
~2 good size mild green chilies, I used Anaheim, Pablano would work well to ~1 jalapeno (skip if you don't like spicy food)
~1 medium spanish onion chopped
~6 cloves garlic minced (I use a garlic press)
~chicken stock
~salt
~pepper

Turn your broiler on to high.

Line a cookie sheet with foil lay out tomatillos and chillies in a single layer and place under the broiler. Broil them until the skins begin to blacken in spots and they soften. (turn them half way through)

Once they are done remove the tops of the chilies and place all of them in blender or foodprcessor. Add a bit of salt to taste and blend till they are just slightly chunky. Taste test for salt and to be sure it's not too spicy for your family. Set this aside.

Next in a large dutch oven or heavy bottom stock pot add a bit of veggie oil. Just enough to coat the bottom.

Salt your pork and add it to the pan. Brown your pork over Med-high heat on all sides then remove from the pan and set aside.

You should have some fat mixed in with the oil left in the pan but if you need more add a bit more veggie oil. Add your onion and saute till tender. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.

Add the pork back to the pan.

Add the green chili tomatillo mixture, then enough Chicken stock to just cover the meat.

Simmer until fork tender. (cooking time will vary depending on the cut and size of the meat) Simply poke a larger piece with the fork and turn the fork, it should pull right apart.

My batch took 2 hours.

To freeze cool completely, place in a freezer safe dish and freeze. To reheat, thaw in your fridge and re-heat in a pot.

Pork chops with Mushroom-Bacon-Sherry gravy

another spin on something my mom use to make. my own recipe

~8oz Bacon (about 6 strips)
~1 small to medium spanish onion (brown onion)
~sliced button mushrooms I used 16oz for 8 chops.
~8 bone in loin chops
~Flour 2-4TBSp
~chicken stock 2-4cups
~salt pepper to taste.
~Sherry (not cooking sherry the real stuff) you can skip the Sherry if you don't like the taste or don't feel like investing in a bottle. But it really is so yummy with the mushrooms.

Cut your bacon into little pieces. I use my kitchen scissors to do this, makes it so fast.

In a large skillet cook your bacon till crisp
Remove the bacon but leave all the fat in the pan.
Add your pork chops and brown on both sides.
Remove your pork chops and place in a bowl.
Add your onions and caramelize. (cook till soft and turning brown but no burned)
Remove your onions.
Add your mushrooms and saute (if you need more fat in the pan add a bit of butter)
Remove your mushrooms.

Add the flour to the fat left in the pan (if you need more add a bit more butter...Hey I never said this was a diet recipe!)
Make a rue,
Add in about a 1/4cup of sherry and scrape up the browned bits in your pan, add in the chicken stock and any liquid that is in the bowl with your pork chops, , and bring to a boil, cook till bubbly and thickened.
Lay your pork chops in a baking dish, cover with onion and mushrooms, cover in the "gravy"

If you plan to eat for dinner then cover with foil and place in the oven at 375 for about 20-30 minutes (until your pork chops are cooked through)

If you plan to freeze, cover in foil, cool completely, when you are ready to eat place in your oven
at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until hot through and pork registers at the proper temperature.

Chicken Enchiladas with Red sauce My moms recipe (mom my is an awesome cook!)
~cooked chicken shredded I used a whole chicken that I steamed
~sour cream
~green onions chopped
~sweet red pepper chopped
~sweet yellow pepper chopped
~corn tortillas
~Red Enchilada sauce
~veggie oil

in a bowl, combine chicken with sour cream enough to coat all your chicken
Add in your green onions and peppers
salt to taste
set aside.

In large frying pan add enough oil just to coat the bottom.
on med-high heat cook your tortillas so they are softened but not crispy. This keeps them from falling apart when you roll them.

In a large baking dish pout a little of the red sauce in the bottom to coat it.
Dip each tortilla in the red sauce so they are coated (lots of coating in this one ;)
Fill with the chicken mixture and roll.
Place in baking dish seam side down.
Repeat until you have ans many enchiladas as you need. I made 2 pans of 24. Enough for 2 meals of 3 enchiladas each. My kiddies eat alot.

Cover the tops of your rolled enchiladas with more red sauce and cheese. I use Cheddar and Jack.

If freezing cover in foil and store To reheat take from freezer place in oven @ 350 35-40
If cooking right away cook at 350 until hot through and cheese is melted.

Sunday Yummies... Farmers Market Trip

I've been a busy busy girl, working on getting listing up in the shop, getting orders out in the mail each day, and well just being mommy! The listing are going up slower than planned because the boys have needed some extra cuddle time, but the rest should be up by the end of the weekend.

I'm still experimenting with my weekly menu . The last 2 weeks went over very well with the kids so I'll share their favorite recipes here tomorrow with some pictures of the meals.

I took a trip to our local Farmer's Market tonight.

I picked up so much yummy fresh produce that I plan to use up on Sunday when I cook again for the week. I haven't decided what I'm going to cook for next week yet. Guess I had better get working on that!

This is what came home with me! Yummy Artichokes, asparagus, lettuce, bell peppers, heirloom tomatoes, figs, oh yummy yummy figs! Blueberries, black berries, raspberries, I think I'll make a pie. Strawberries, avocados, nectarines, eggplant, and fresh baked bread. I couldn't resist the sunflower either :)

School Days

My little man went off to preschool today. SNIFF!
It's only for 2 days a week for a couple of hours but it is so strange to be home all alone.
I hope he's loving it.

a couple newbies and a new blog series

After how nutty and stressful, the last school year was I have decided that if I am going to maintain what bit of sanity I have left we needed to make some major changes in our house hold.

With 3 different school drop of times and 4 different school pick up times and Rob gone 4 nights out of the week taking night classes after working all day, coupled in with normal life of homework and errands and business, being organized and prepared is beyond essential.

So this school year I prepared early.
We set up a rotating chore list and reward system for the kids. With 6 kids it's a lot of info so I'll share that soon in it's own post.

I have also started back into the routine of cooking on Sunday for the whole week. I did this back when we only had 3 kiddies and I worked away from home.
It's amazing how much stress this removes from my life.
It's going so well i decided to share our weekly menu and recipes here in a new series of posts I'm going to call "the Sunday Yummies" It's going to be a work in progress but hopefully it can help take some stress from your week, and if nothing else give you a couple of yummy new recipes. The first "Sunday Yummies" post will be this weekend :)

For now here are some new pretties. I'm baby sitting my niece today so I wont be able to list them until tomorrow but here's a sneak peek...

As with almost all of my bracelets the chain is all handmade by my two little hands.

I haven't named these girls yet, but I am in love! If you haven't noticed by now I have a major thing for hearts. I sketch each heart free hand and cut each with my handy jewelers saw. I fabricate the gem stone bezel by hand, add the beaded border by hand, and then cut stamp and add each word tag. These are a true labor of love.

I'm sure you've also noticed by now I also have a thing for the beach. This beauty is new to my beach line of jewelry. Handmade chain and all :)

This was a custom request for my friend Liz of This Little Piggie (she makes the cutest hand painted piggy banks that my kids are Huge fans of)

Liz's sister joined the peace core and shipped off to Africa for 2 years. Liz and her family wanted to have something special made so her sis would know she was in their hearts and thoughts on the other side of the world.

When I have a few quiet moments and a strong cup of coffee I'll get these all added into the shops :)

The Queen Bee Rocks!

Have I gushed enough about the Queen Bee Market? I don't think there is a such a thing as gushing enough about this Market. This is the Market that all other handmade market hope to bee when they grow up! Mark your calendars for November 18th and 19th for the holiday Queen Bee Market. Seriously book your flights now, get the girls together and plan for a road trip because it will be HUGE and AH-MAZING.

I took an extended break from my blog and the shops to get things in order for this next school year so that life and my shops will run smoothly this year. I happy with the changes I will be implementing and confident that they will help tremendously.

on the road

We have been enjoying many of our national parks and monuments. We have been through 8 states. We have visited, Zion UT, Craters of the Moon Idaho, The Grand Teton Mountains WY, Yellowstone WY, Jewel Cave SD, Crazy Horse monument SD, Mount Rushmore SD. Tonight we are staying in Denver and tomorrow we head down to Southern Colorado into the Rockies.

We have been hiking, playing in rivers, skipping stones in lakes, climbing up extinct volcanoes, searching for wild life (we spotted many elk, a few dear, a wolf, coyotes, a strange bird we have yet to identify, and far too many mosquitoes). At night we roasted marshmallows, star gazed, and slept in a large tent (that was an adventure all on it's own)

Most of all we have been enjoying a slower paced life.

Today is one of the first days i have had Internet access since we left. Apparently trees don't need to check emails. ;)

I'm not sure how service will be at our next stop so my next post may have to wait till we are back home.

We had a tough spring in our house hold for a number a reasons.

As much as I love spring, I am ready to usher in a new season, and some much needed time off.

My etsy shop is closed until August first.
My other shop will remain open but I will not begin work on any orders that are placed after June 21st until July 15th.
All orders that were placed by June 21st have shipped out!

It was a crazy week getting everything finished up and shipped out.
Getting the House ready and our fridge stocked for our House Sitter.
Getting the kids packed for vacation.

We are off to go camping :) I love camping. Simple carefree days outside playing in the river and hiking through the woods with the kids. Cooking out doors and enjoying God's creations. I'll take the country over the city any day!

I will be posting photos of our adventures over on facebook often, and over hear if I get a chance to figure out how to post from my phone. No computer for a month!

Because I can't do a post with out photos here are a few sneak peeks of new designs that will debut when I reopen...

I love this pendant! From the front it looks elegant and simple with a gem stone of your choice sent in a sterling circle but around the outside edge I can stamp names or words (see the photo below :)

My new "Color bliss" Ribbon wrap initial bracelet! These I love love LOVE! I've been working on these beauties for a couple of months now and I can't wait to get them up in the shop to share. I have so many color choices for the super soft silk ribbons. I adore color and I am so happy I found a way to pair vibrant color with the fluid grey of the silver. I'll have quite a few of these at the Queen Bee Market on August 6th.

Super secret stacking rings. A simple but fun twist on my ever popular stacking rings.

Instead of the names or words being stamped on the top of the rings I stamp the sides. When you slip them on they just look like beautiful set of rings, but you'll know they carry a special message or name on them :)

Father's day order deadline extended...

We've had a little bit of end of the school year drama, including someone puncturing my tire at the market, leading to 3 hours at the Mechanic to get a new one in and on the Van. With 6 kids life stops with out the van!
Anyhow I have not been able to finish listing the new Men's line so I have extended the Father's day order deadline to June 4th! I will have the new goodies in the shops by the end of the night :) (pssst sale to follow)

Catching my Breath!

Just a super quick post to say I haven't gone into hiding :)

I'm finally catching up on life, post mother's day rush, post 3 rounds of the flu or some other tummy virus that hit everyone in the house, post queen bee market, and all the end of school year events.

Rob's Graduation is tonight!! Congratulations on all your hard work, late night classes and paper writing, honey I'm so proud of you :)

I'm getting back to taking custom orders this week.

The last day to order for Father's day delivery is June 1st.
I know it's just around the corner but I have a few new designs for Men that will be listed this weekend.
Like my new Hard Wear Line for men (or women!) ...

My new line of leather cuffs, lots more of those to come in several colors!!

My mother's day was spent sick in bed all day.

I received a gorgeous bouquet of lilies from my mommy. Thank you mom, they brighten up my kitchen and make me smile every time I pass them!

One of the discussions that resonated most with me from the weekend at Creative Estates was the discussion on balancing family and business when you run a business from home. The reminder to take family time. To set strict business hours and hold to them. This is so difficult for me to do some days.

I think at times it's easy for us to forget there is a human on the other end of the computer when we shop online. A human with a family, a husband, children, with emotions, and some days with a very full schedule.

As customers, we send a message and want to know we've been heard and not ignored. We can get impatient, and even at times down right rude. As a shop owner it can be so discouraging to know you can't get to everyone every day. To end your day knowing you let someone down.

I struggle with emails. Big time. Because there are just not enough hours in the day to get to every single message myself. I wish there were. I want to personally respond to every single one. To thank each person for their sweet compliments on my work, to chat over artistic ideas for special jewelry, to hear about their story behind their request, and to thank them for choosing me to create such a special keepsake. I love this part of my business. I love the human connection.

But there have been too many times that I am trying to get through messages, and the kids want my attention. To show me a Lego creation. To ask me why black holes are black or some other silly or profound question that is nagging at their curiosity. To show me the picture they drew... just for me. Then I feel guilty. Guilty for turning off the computer and not getting to those last 10 messages, guilty for not turning of the computer and devoting every ounce of attention to the inspection of the latest Lego world.

So it is time. Time to let go. Time to accept I can not continue to run my business on my own. Time to set business hours and hold to them PERIOD Time to not feel guilty because I shut the computer down to play with my kids!

So it's time to let go! I am bringing on someone to help with emails and customer service. It is so hard to let go of this aspect of my shops, but I really feel so much better in making this decision. I took the advice of the "pros" from the creative Estates weekend and I took Saturday off and we had a full family day. I am so much more relaxed with Rob and the kids. More energetic and excited to get to my work bench this evening . So very confident that I need to do this so that customer service is not lacking.

Starting at the end of this week I will introduce my new customer service gal. She's excited to get to know you all and offer help where she can :) I will still handle most of the custom request convos myself, because when it comes to the technical jewelry stuff I'm the only one who can answer, but she will be on hand to answer simple questions, and send updates on production and shipping info.

I know this is going to be a tremendous help for me, and so much less frustrating for all my wonderful customers to not have to wait as long for answers!

catching up

Some days, weeks or even months life feels like a big game of catch up. I'm happy to say I'm finally feeling a little more caught up on life.

Rob had a chance to hang to of my shelving sets in my work space. thanks babe!!

They look amazing against my "ice cube" walls all loaded up with vintage spice bottles full of vibrant gem stones.

I'm still looking for the perfect set of bookshelves to house my order books, and workshop handbooks but I must say my space is coming together nicely :)

In between Mother's day orders I'm prepping for the next Queen Bee Market. Have you marked your calendar yet? It's May 6th and 7th and it's going to be HUGE!!! Hop in your car, charter a jet, plan girls road trip and come check it out!!!!

Back Home and a new design!

I'm back home from the Creative Estates conference. Tracy and I took a road trip to Arizona to attend.

It was a wonderful weekend. Lots of great tips and information were shared.

It was SO wonderful to meet some lovely ladies in person that I've "known" online for ages, and it was so much fun to meet so many new talented ladies. Tracy and I had some fun adventures on the drive.

But, as with any trip my favorite moment was walking back in the front door of my home and being tackled by 6 pairs of little arms and a smiling hubby.

Today it's back to normal life.

I'll spend the next 2 days catching up on emails and convos. There were major Internet problems at the venue so I wasn't able to get online while I was away. I know there are many of you waiting to hear back, answers are coming!!

I posted this new design last week before I left.

I've been in hiding :)

Not really hiding, just busy busy with life In the last month we've had sick kiddies, leaky ceilings, car troubles, a family member in the hospital. I'm ready to get back to Normal!

Rob (my honey) did go into hiding, to finish his thesis, one more test and he is DONE with his masters degree!!! YAY honey :)

I've been working on updating, and revising, and creating. Aaaand... working with Sharon of Redbud designs to redo my blog in a website style design. I love it, what do you think?

There are tons of new designs I need to finish getting set up so I'll have many many post full of new beauties in the days to follow. Mother's day is just around the corner, My projected order deadline is April 22nd, but tell your honey or your kiddies not to wait till the last minute, I might have to move it sooner depending on order volume.

We had a full weekend!

Our weekend started with sick kiddies :(

Which lead to homemade beef soup

Meggie and her "tinnie Tia" her Aunt :) My parents and little sister paid us a surprise visit! I think they may have been looking for an excuse to escape the copious amounts of snow they have been getting in the mid west.

Weekend packages heading out to the post office and Nathaniel thrilled that he managed to run off with his sister's paper jam guitar.

OH BE STILL MY HEART! My children volunteered to do the dishes!

Friday plans...

I had big plans for today. Lot's of things to check of my "to do" list.

But today has turned into a sick day. So I will be cuddling my little man who has a fever. Watching a couple of episodes of Super Mario Cartoons (remember those from the 80's?) and making some Chamomile tea for him.
I hate when the kids feel crummy, but I love that I can hold him on my lap and comfort him, those quiet moments with my kids are worth every unchecked thing on my list.

I worked extra extra late last night (till 3:45am) so I could enjoy a simple day today.

I got up early and popped a pan of "baked" Cinnamon French toast into the oven. Decorated the table with little hearts, so the kiddies could have a special Valentines day breakfast.

Rob had the day off of work today which was Wonderful! He surprised me with Eat Pray Love on DVD and a bouquet of roses. We never exchange Valentines gifts so it was a sweet surprise.

We had lunch together at home and had time to chat.

The kids had a special treat of Churros after dinner.

Thomas left these on my pillow for me :)

It was a slow mellow day and Exactly what I needed!!!

Destination healthy start of week 4

It was another slow week of being able to get out and walk. I needed to work several mornings to be sure that Valentines order headed out the door on time.

However I'm down to 171.2 from 175 last week. I can't wait to see that scale drop under 170!

The hardest part of staying on track is working late at night. Most nights I don't get to my work bench until 8 or 9 at night and then I work till midnight or 2 am. I get hungry and need to eat something to be able to work that late, that's when Rob's chocolate snacks in the freezer look best.

I found that Greek yogurt is fabulous for a late night snack. It's high in protein, no fat, and only 100 calories. It gives me the energy I need to keep working and takes care of my sweet craving.

Here's to hoping next week I can make it under 170 :)

Destination Healthy week 3

This week was not an easy week on the weight loss path.
I only lost 4 ounces :( Guess it's better than nothing though.

I lost 3 days of walking to rain and kids being off of school...and I ate a cupcake. I know since I didn't walk for 3 days I shouldn't have, but met up with a friend for coffee and dessert, and I did, I ate a cupcake.

I have been really good the last couple of days though. I added in an extra mile to my walk, and I bought a home exercise dvd for the days walking outside is impossible.

I had a few people ask me what my goal is.
I haven't set a weight goal. My BIG goal isn't a number or size. It's a hike :)

I know some gals who have had a goal to run a marathon, I'm not a runner but I love to hike.
Growing up and in my young adult years we did lots of backpacking and hiking. Way back before we had kids.
So I plan to train for a backpacking trip. I'm not sure what trail, or mountain yet. I'm looking into what might be a safer hike for a couple of girls (my friend will be going with me) As we look into it and start getting ideas I'll share.

Anyone else want to plan for a backpacking trip? We could make a blogging girls hike :) How much fun would that be!!

We are harboring a couple of procrastinators in our home. We've had a history of...

procrastinator: "um mom"

Me: "yes (sweetie monkey honey depending on the day)"

procrastinator: "um I have to do a report and visual aid on..."

Me: "okay no problem, have you started to get your ideas together on what you want to write and make?"

procrastinator: "Um yes I have some"

Me: "okay when is it due"

silences follows

Me, sternly: "When is it due"

Procrastinator, tears welling up: "day after tomorrow"

We had way to many of these little "talks" so I put my foot down earlier this year. I warned the older, and younger ones, but mostly the older ones, that the next time they would be on their own. I would not be staying up too late, proof reading, gluing, painting.

So far it has gone well.

We had 2 projects this month, and both of the boys told me more than a week before they were due. We had several days to finish and they both did great! I didn't have to "go on the war path" as my husband calls it. No tears shed, and bed times kept!

Destination Healthy aka the diet week #2

I can't thank you ladies who shared last week enough. You really were so encouraging.

I think we can inspire each other together to keep on track!! So please share your progress, ideas or recipes!! You are not alone :)

Here we are at week 2. I stepped on the scale this morning... last week 179 today 175.4. Little by little. The happy report for today is I had to cinch my belt up one more notch! Yay!

So here it is, the good the bad and the ugly....

I've been asked what am I doing; a weight loss plan, or organized group weight watchers etc...

The answer is no. I am going it alone (with the wonderful encouragement of you ladies!!) I can't do a plan where my meals are pre set, cooked and delivered. I hear those plans are amazing and give awesome results but with 6 kids and a hubby to feed it wont work in my life.

I did some reading on diets this week and I think that left me more confused, "cut carbs, cut protein, eat dairy don't eat dairy" Everybody seams to have a different answer.

So I am going with my own common sense.

I have made little changes in my daily life. I doubled my walking route. With 27 pounds of Nathaniel strapped to my back, it's a good work out.

I cut out all fast food and most processed foods. Which was really hard when Rob ordered pizza the night I took Nathaniel in to the ER (he's fine now) It was a stressful night, and I'm a stress eater, and there was all this yummy cheese coated pizza when I returned home.

I grabbed a yogurt and walked away from the pizza! That was not an easy thing to do.

I wont cut out carbs, but I switched to whole grain, whole wheat. I prepare my own meat so I know what seasoning and salt content go in (I've always done this though) I'm eating more fruit, and if I'm still hungry at dinner and temped to go for seconds, I stick to a second serving of veggies.

No it hasn't been all that easy. There are temptations everywhere. I'm hungry, it seams like all the time, especially late at night when I'm working at my work bench.

My hubby who has put on 5 pounds in the last 12 years I've known him, keeps chocolate snacks in the freezer. Midnight rolls around and I'm still up working I just want to tear into one like a rabid animal and enjoy the chocolate bliss, but...I grab my yogurt instead and leave the kitchen before temptation gets the better of me.

That's where I stand heading into week 2.

pretty little things

I've been hard at work this week making over my studio space.

Here is the before picture, I figure if I can admit my weight and size yesterday sharing this can't be as scary! Can it? (please don't submit my space to hoarders, it's not as bad as it looks ;)

I spent the last 2 days clearing out this side of the room so I can paint. I sifted through all my boxes of supplies and crafts under that messy table to the right.

I let much of it go.

They are craft supplies I used before I started full time into silversmithing. Thinking some say I may use them again, I kept them hidden away (okay fine they're not so hidden). I have decided that my arsenal of metalsmithing tools needs to continue to grow and it can't until I let go of some other things.
Some of it is heading to the garage for the girls to use when they get older and much of it has gone off to new homes.

I have taken down all my tackle boxes that stored my beads. I can't see them in those boxes, and so they have just sat there unused feelilng unloved for too long.

I transferred them into little vintage spice jars. Don't they look beautiful!!

Once I am done painting, I plan to put up wall shelves and the bottles will all find new homes on the shelves where they can be seen in all they sparkly colorful beauty!

The shelves will take some time to get up. So you will have to wait a bit for the final pictures. My hubby is usually the handy man, but he's in the middle of writing his thesis for his final semester of his masters program. I don't want to wait till April when he is done so I plan to figure to how to create the shelves myself and hang them. :)

The D word

All right, here it is. I'm putting my self out there. So please don't judge, because this is tough for me to admit to the world...

I struggle with my weight. I have for the last 2 years after having Nathaniel.

I blamed it on the extra baby weight, but let's get real...it's been 2 1/2 years. It's not baby weight any more.

I never was one of those little cute pregnant girls. The ones that are all belly and chest and don't seem to put on weight anywhere else. I put it on everywhere, especially my face, my fingers my toes, my ankles, oh my poor little ankles.

Thing is after each baby the weight would start to come off, except this time. It hasn't budged.

It's time to get real. I'm not in my 20's anymore. My metabolism has changed.

I've got 6 little people depending on me, I have to stay healthy. Plus I really miss wearing cute clothes. Really really miss it!

So... I'm on a diet.

I've gotten back into my walking routine.
I wasn't able to walk in Dec. too busy and tired.
I was good about going each morning last week.
This week I've got 2 kids with fevers and who knows what germies so I haven't been able to get out on the trail and walk. I'll need to find something to do at home on these days so I can stay on track.

I'm putting this out there because I need to stay motivated and on track, and I know I am not alone in this struggle.

I plan to post my progress once a week. Feel free to walk this journey with me, or just skip these post all together. There will still be tons of pretty jewelry to check out on other days ;)

Week #1 179 pounds (yikes!) snug size 12... oh my did I really just admit that?

Good bye beige...

Hello Ice Cube!!!

When we bought our home everything was beige. I mean everything! The walls the doors the cabinets, the carpet. Beige.

I had grand plans for color. Every room needed color. The kids rooms were the first to be painted.

Then we were pregnant, for years, and the painting was put on hold.
Now 8 years later I am finally painting, we finished the living room a couple months ago. Now my room, which doubles as my studio space is getting a face lift!
I have spent the last 2 month debating over colors. I had up to 6 samples on my wall at once, thinking that's too dark, I like that but it might be too much on every wall, that's too minty, and on and on.

I almost gave up and decided to settle figuring if I hate it I can always try again, but one last trip to Home Depot and I found my color!!!

It's light and beautiful in my space! Calming and inspiring with out feeling cold.

I can't wait to finish making over my space. Next come the shelves for my books, and beads and gems.
Then some art work for the walls.

I found this that I just LOVE and I am working with the artist to have a couple more made
One of St Joan of Arc and one of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Artist is Flor Larios She has paintings of Angles and some of Jesus, and many of Mary. They are whimsical and heart felt and just lovely. Check out her shop!

I'll share the Journey of transforming my space as i continue to work on it :)

Kindred

I love the quite hours of the morning when I sit at my workbench. The kids are all tucked safe in their beds, my honey is fast asleep, and there is silence. Beautiful blissful silence.

After midnight is when I find my peace. When I can bring two thoughts together with out them being interrupted by questions and request, and the occasional sibling bickering. I can plant those thoughts in my heart, and let them grow and create beauty from them.

I can reflect, pray, or just enjoy the quiet rhythm as I hammer and stamp.

Tonight I find myself reflecting over last month. In a word it was a disaster. By the end, even though I finished all my orders on time and shipped everything as promised I felt so worn down and on some days, defeated.

It was difficult to find the strength to persevere those days, when at 3 am I would look behind me and see my hubby snuggled under our blankies, and I so desperately wanted to just stop working, and cuddle up in the comfort of his arms and sleep.

We all have these times in our life, we're human. We plan and we plan, we think we have our ducks in a row and we DEPEND on OUR plans, then... they fall apart and we have no control over it.

It is these times that we have to step back place our broken non existent plans in God's hands and know, He will give us the strength to persevere. He will set the path. If we choose to walk it, He will guide us.

Sometimes that strength comes to us from others.

In my weakest moments last month, when i just wanted to cry at 3am, because something else went wrong, someone else got sick, something else broke I was exhausted and wanted to give up Tracy would send me an e-mail. They always came in right when I needed them most, right when I was ready to set the hammer down, there was an e-mail encouraging me on.

Tracy is a kindred soul, my creative sister! This Christmas season was busy for her as well, and we were there for each other in the wee hours of the morning encouraging each other to keep faith, the light was at the end of the dark path we just had to keep going. We kept the faith, we persevered!! Thanks Tracy, love ya!

Love Notes!

Since our courtship Rob and I have left each other surprise love notes. Some times it would be a card, or we would drive to the other's work and leave a little note on the car.

A couple of years ago we got some little foam hearts. We wrote little messages or drew pictures on them, some silly, some sweet and simple, some suggestive ;)

We hide them in different places around the house for the other to find. On the computer key board, dresser drawers, in my make up bag, in his wallet..

Today I found this one in my workbench drawer.

It always gives my heart a little flutter of joy when i find one :)

Vacation is officially over.
They kids go back to school tomorrow. Rob goes back to work, and starts his final semester for his Masters Program (only one semester left, yay!!)

It will be bitter sweet, the kids are gone again no more lazy mornings of Uno games and pancakes, and I wont have much time with my honey, but it will be nice getting back to normal routine. Plus I start making over my workshop tomorrow. Painting, new shelves and bookcases.

Tomorrow I also reopen my Etsy shop. I will have a handful of new designs listed by the end of the day.

***If there is something you have been eyeing order soon, I will be working over this week adjusting all of my prices to reflect the rise in the cost of silver. (silver prices have really skyrocketed!)*****

My name is Joy Gabler , I have been crafting and creating my whole life...but really started getting serious about it about 10 years ago! My Company
The Vintage Rabbit, just celebrated 10 years in the biz! I sell my things out of my booth at Vignettes in Ocean Beach California . I also travel to do shows several times a year! I started my my blog www.thevintagerabbit.typepad.com about 4 years ago and have met some wonderful gals through the blogworld and along the way have made some special friends too.
My husband and I live with our 2 dogs and several chickens out in the country in Sunny Southern California! I love being able to work from home and do what I love!

2. How did you get started crafting...
I started crafting as a child. My mom and her side of the family were always making and doing something! I guess it's in the blood! I think my mom was ahead of her time... I remember having little boutiques on the weekends in our driveway selling things we had made and I have been doing it off and on ever since!

3.What is your favorite medium to work with.
I kinda love all the mediums...and it kinda depends on the mood I am in at the time and I am always willing to learn to work with new ones. But right now I am enjoying working with fabric, especially vintage fabric!

4. What is your biggest goal for 2011
There are so many goals!! But I think I would really like to concentrate on a line of Jewelry and a website!

5.Share a favorite Christmas memory.
Making Norwegian and Swedish Christmas cookies with my Grandma and all my cousins!
I also got engaged in December at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego..so my husband and I always love to go down there on that date to celebrate our engagement and how we met!

12 Days of Christmas continued!! Day 7

To get back into the swing of the giveaway I'm keeping it pretty simple today. So welcome back to Day 7!

Today you can win my new word of the year bracelet.

Similar to my eternity bracelet, except the eternity ring is a bit smaller, a bit less than 3/4 of an inch. I made it petite so it can be paired with your favorite bracelet(s) and worn together.

The other difference is the bracelet chain is all hand made by me :) I LOVE making chain. The chain is sturdy and solid, but looks feminine and delicate.

I chose to stamp mine with "simplify" I need to be reminded at times to take a step back and clear out what I don't need. When life gets to busy it can be overwhelming and it's easy to become discouraged and loose sight of my goals.

when life gives you lemons...

make lemonade. But when it keeps giving you lemons, make lemon tarts, and lemon meringue pie, and lemon chiffon cake, lemon chicken, and..... life kept giving us lemons.

I have to confess I am happy to see the end of Dec. It was the type of month where if it could go wrong it did, again and again.

Though Christmas is always joyful, the beauty of Christmas Mass, the excitement of the kids, the time to sit and really enjoy family, this year I was just plain exhausted!

During my busiest month working and creating,
lemon one... both of the assistants I trained to help me through the rush, called off sick or had other things come up and couldn't work, at all, so for all of Dec I worked till between 3-5am slept 2 hours and then got up with the kids (Tracy your 2am e-mails of encouragement were all that kept me working some nights! mwah!)

lemon two... All six of the kids played two rounds of pass the tummy bug, and if you have a few kids, you know it almost never hits them all the same day. So with 6 it was something like 12 non stop days of someone throwing up. It's these times that I am so thankful that we are fortunate enough to have a washing machine in our home. Many families do not, we really are blessed.

lemon three... 5 days before my shipping deadline my immune system caved and I caught the tummy bug too. Thank goodness for my Mother in law who came and took the kids while I was sick because I couldn't move for 24 hours.

lemon four... we had the heaviest rain fall in who knows how long which lead to mud slides and flooding in my town and a leaking roof in 4 rooms of our house. I haven't found the silver lining here yet... I suppose we have a warm home with a full fridge and more than we need, so a leaky roof isn't that big of a deal.

lemon five... the van broke down and needed repairs this month, and I got a flat tire driving over a submerged pot hole on my way to mail my very last Christmas orders, in the pouring rain.

I really could go on and on because it felt like at every turn something new came up, broke down or got sick, but to keep going on just feels like I'm whining.

I just want to let you lovely ladies know I had to put the 12 days of giveaway on hold with good reason.

Now that you have all listened to me complain (sorry) The 12 days of Christmas will resume tomorrow with my brand new "Word of the Year Bracelet"

Over the past couple of years people have been choosing a word rather than a New Years resolution. Let's be honest, how often do we keep our resolution?
But the word is like a theme for the year. Something simple to apply to daily life.

Also I have been receiving several e-mails through my Bigcartel shop wanting to know when I will reopen. I decided to go ahead and reopen my Big Cartel shop today so some of my designs are available for purchase. My Etsy Shoppe will remain closed until Jan 10th as I need to make some changes to my shop, my pricing, and my policies.

Merry Christmas from our Family to yours!!!!!

This picture is of the kiddies at 6 am Christmas Morning... two hours after they woke up! Can you tell? Little Nathaniel was sick on Christmas so he didn't make it into the photos. He slept like a rock through all the squeals and screams of "Merry Christmas Mom and Dad it's 6 get up please!!!!"

As for why I fell of the blogging map for so long in the middle of the 12 days of Christmas giveaway no less well, I'll fill you all in tomorrow.
The good news is as Catholics we celebrate Christmas through the feast of the Epiphany (the visitation of the wise men) on January 6th so yes I will be finishing the giveaway, and there are still some amazing gifts left to win, that wont limit you to Christmas decor.

Tell us a little about yourself
I am a wife and a "mom" to our adorable and never ending needy cats Madeline and Talor. They always keep me on my toes. Other than all of the jobs I do (teaching, drawing, painting, etsy, etc.) I truly enjoy cooking and making up my own recipes. My husband and I get a lot of fun out of sitting back and watching movies too. You can also find me searching through etsy and online at other artists in my in between times. I have a very supportive and loving family on both sides who I love very much and a church family who I can't imagine my life without now. I feel very blessed with the life God has given me!

How did you get started painting and drawing?
This has always been a difficult question for me because I can't remember. My dad is an art teacher, and has always encouraged drawing with me. I think it started before I could retain memories...because I've known nothing different. Although, I think I truly took a hold of it as "something" when I was in 3rd or 4th grade when a friend at the time was drawing Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. That inspired me to push my abilities.

As for painting, I always hated watercolor. My dad tried to teach me acrylic and it wasn't my medium. I stayed black and white with a graphite pencil till my junior/senior year of high school. I truly began to love watercolor right before college.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
As much as I love watercolor, my absolute favorite medium is and always will be pencil. Preferably, now that I've discovered it more deeply, colored pencil. It's much fuller to sketch with than a mechanical graphite.

What is your biggest goal for 2011?
My biggest goal is to get my paper work in order and better organize my time. I think secretly I like the chaos, but the forefront of my mind needs convincing. This past year I feel I've gotten pretty organized in my studio because I decided to take my Etsy shop a lot more seriously. Hopefully 2011 will be even more so.

Share a favorite Christmas memory.
So many to choose from! Yikes. I'll pick a more recent one. Two years ago we got together at my dad's (with mom, sister, bro in law, husband, dog, and me) for Christmas Eve. It's tradition to stay the night together and celebrate then. We had some pretty nasty weather out and as my mom showed up, unpacked her things, she realized she forgot the stockings for the fireplace. She lives 30mins away from my dad here in the city. She wasn't going to go back for them, although we ladies tried to convince the boys it would be an adventure for them. That didn't fly so we had to come up with something else. We decided to use plastic grocery bags, and I drew stockings on each one with a sharpie and wrote the persons name. It was so funny seeing all of these plastic bags hanging from the mantle. We joked about it being a hick Christmas, with us being from Iowa n' all. We have brought it up several times since and always laugh.

Welcome to day 5 of the 12 days of Christmas Giveaway!

Sandi is not just an amazing seamstress, but the designer of the Portabellopixie fabric line, creator of adorable sewing patterns, author of "Sewing bits and Pieces", and salvager of vintage treasures.

Tell us a little about yourself
Me in a nutshell? I am an overly creative person with too many ideas. I love my family and faith. I am a foodie and love really good chocolate. I have severe OCD over some things, and am completely lackadaisical about others.. For example, we recently painted our bedroom and I went through 5 paint samples and debated for a week before deciding on the color. But not showering until noon and taking the kids to school in my pj's - meh. No biggie.

How did you get started crafting?
I fell into design purely out of a need to do something creative. I was working as a phlebotomist when my daughter was born. For me, sending her to day care wasn't an option, but I knew I needed to find a source of income to generate from home. I started sewing children's clothing in custom sizes, which led to a greater love of fabric. One day I decided to just give fabric design a try and luckily, it came quite easy to me.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
My process involves a mix of paper sketching, digital rendering and then physical color samples that I send off to the Michael Miller who then sends them to the printing mill. But I have to say my favorite part is the sketching on paper. I start with a Derwent sketching pencil and then layer in color with Copic Markers and Prismacolor pencils. What is your biggest goal for 2011
A few things happening for me in 2010 are the addition of stationary goods and fine art prints to my line-up of goodies. I would love to have a scrapbooking line of paper and have actually designed one. Here's to hoping. :)

Share a favorite Christmas memory.
I would have to say that the year I was married was a magical Christmas. We were married on December 19th, 2002 - so every year when Christmas rolls around, it is wonderful because of the Holiday spirit that is floating in the air, but it is extra special for us because it remind us of our marriage.

Day 4 of the 12 days of Christmas giveaway!

Today meet (drum roll please ;) Mindy Gledhill!!!!!

Mindy is the creative mind voice and sweet soul behind, well Mindy Gledhill! Her latest Album Anchor is probably one of my favorite albums EVER. I've never purchased an album before where I love ever single song, until I picked up Anchor.

There is something magical about Mindy's music. Like for a moment you can step back into your little girl shoes and dance and spin in the glittering sunshine on a spring afternoon.

Her songs are inspirational, up beat, and positive. I love listening to her with my kiddies, and it melts my heart when Nathaniel sings her songs in is two year old language.

Oh and I should mention much of your jewelry is made while I listen to Mindy and dance around my workbench, hammer and torch in hand. (yes I do keep a fire extinguisher handy)

I had the pleasure of hearing Mindy perform and meeting her twice! As if it isn't enough being an amazing singer, songwriter, musician, Mindy is spunky, down to earth, and so genuine!

Have I gushed enough? Let's get to know Mindy a little better in her own words...

Tell us a little about yourself

The Cliff's Notes version of my bio would be this: Mindy Gledhill is a bilingual, musical, holistic, design obsessed, tree hugging northern California native who now lives in Utah with her husband and two sons.

How did you get started singing?
I started singing when I was a kid. I could hear harmony in all things including the hum of the microwave and the honking horn of the family van. However, I didn't make the high school chamber choir, or musical; nor did I make Women's Chorus in college or Young Ambassadors. No extensive musical training. Some scattered piano and voice lessons and an unfinished music degree. Impressive, right?

What is your favorite song from your album?

My favorite song is "Circus Girl." The time signature is impossible to figure out but still very catchy. Try it!

What is your all time favorite song?

My all time favorite song is "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young. It has been for 20 years now.

What is your biggest goal for 2011?

My biggest goal is to get a few of my songs licensed to TV/Film. I actually just got Anchor licensed to an independent film, so I'm really excited about that. I'll still be working on more licensing opportunities though.

Share a favorite Christmas memory.

I get all choked up when I think back to Christmas morning in my childhood. We had one of those winding staircases and all nine of us kids would sit at the top in tremendous anticipation until Mom and Dad would give us the green light to see what Santa had brought. It was a crazy stampede down the winding staircase with a few casualties on the way down every time.

Tell us a bit about you
I LOVE to create. When I am not creating I am thinking about creating. I have two darling little girls, Ava and Addy who make my life so richly blessed. My hubby quit his accounting job in 2010 to help me with the growth of my business. We have loved traveling around the country, emailing patterns on the laptop and me up to my knees in lace and silk sewing headbands in the passenger seat with our babies in the back of our fuel efficient car this year.

How did you get started Crafting?
I got started crafting when I was in junior high making cross stitched items for family members and remember how much I loved seeing my family enjoy their gifts for years to come.
I lost my crafting for years though and found it again when my daughter was born and I started scrapbooking her photos in collage art that really wasn't scrapbooking at all. Then I bought a sewing machine and my husband said it will be a year before you can sew a dress ya know. Ha ha. I am so stubborn. Go ahead and tell me I can't do it. So I finished the first dress about 22 hours later. Pretty hideous really but I had found my heaven on earth.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
My favorite medium in sewing is vintage hand embroidered lace, vintage rhinestones, and beautiful high quality silks.

What is your biggest goal for 2011
My biggest goal for 2011 is to be able to use photoshop and illustrator like a pro. I design pattern pieces in Illustrator and love to play with collage work in Photoshop layers now but I have a ton to learn in both!

Please share a favorite Christmas memory.
My favorite Christmas memory is strangely the year after my father passed away when I was 17. My mom decided to take my two younger brothers and I skiing and honestly it was our first time to really have any joy since he had passed. I remember a lot of tears up in those mountains without dad but lots of laughter and a very snowy, calm, serene Christmas. God was definitely with us that holiday.

Tell us a bit about you!

I am a single momma to a growing 3 year old who is always hungry. I love painting, crafting, sewing and making anything for my daughter. My favorite past time is spending time with my family and am the only child of 4 who is actually able (and willing) to work full time for my parent's business. I love anything pumpkin and peppermint, but not necessarily together. I paint piggies at night, after the kid is tucked in, and love when customers allow me to use my imagination when painting up a new design.

How did you get started crafting?
I started crafting with my mom and my sisters. My mom has always been creative and we each got a little of her talent in all different areas. When my daughter was born I began making anything and everything, especially for her. I have had tons of craft fails (some I would never admit to!) but do my best to learn my lesson and try again.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
I love fabric. I know it has nothing to do with painting piggies, but it's an obsession of which the piggy bank sales help support!

What is your biggest goal for 2011
Time Management. I am always late (thanks mom!) and rushing to get out of the house for anything. I want to focus on not over booking myself and making sure I leave a little room to breath.

Share a favorite Christmas memory.

This Christmas memory is more of a tradition that creates new memories every year. My mom has always bought everyone in the family underwear for Christmas. Well, several years ago she got tired of wrapping so when we woke up Christmas morning, the underwear were all hanging from the tree. Ever since it is the most exciting part of Christmas morning! We all open our gifts and after it's my mom's turn to pass out the new undies... embarrassing at least one person each year with her creative finds!

Liz has most kindly offered day 2's winner a custom Piggy Bank! Oh the possibilities!

I have seen her work in person and it's just lovely!

She is working on a super Mario Bros piggy bank for one of my boys :) I know it will be a hit this Christmas.

I wish I could say that my biggest goal is to maybe increase my blog following, or go on a vacation with my family somewhere far, far away, but what I really want is to provide my family with a comfortable income and health insurance. These past 3 years have been a huge struggle for my family...and to be honest, I'm tired of it! As many Americans are as well.

Please share a favorite Christmas memory.

I have so many wonderful memories. I was raised in Northern California, where it snowed almost every Christmas, but there was one Christmas Eve I recall my sister, neighbors and I had spent hours out in the cold crisp evening, looking up into the starry sky, in search for Rudolphs' nose. Not sure if we ever did see Rudolphs' nose, but what we did see were quite a few blinking red lights passing by ;)

My house hold is all abuzz.

Mommy is working working working on orders and e-mails and listing new items for the shop before the Christmas order deadline.

Daddy (wonderful wonderful daddy!) is busy busy keeping kiddies out of mommy's workspace, playing cars with Nathaniel, and Super Mario Bros on the Wii with Gabriel and Alexander, and building leggo cities with Thomas.

Kaiya and Meggie, are having girl time playing barbies. Some days I think they really feel out numbered by the boys.

Tonight I plan to take off two hours from working so we can set the Christmas tree up and hang a few ornaments with the kids. I can't wait!

I posted 3 new items in my shop today. I have so many new pieces I made last month and just haven't had time to list so I hope to get a few added in tomorrow as well. You just might want to re-do your Christams wish list ;)

~lazy Sunday mornings spent cuddling in bed with 6 kiddies
~for rainy days, and yummy hot cocoa
~for little boys with chocolate mustaches :)
~for my wonderful hubby who let me take a 3 hours nap today so I can stay up till the wee hours of the morning fulfilling orders.

Down to the wire!

2 MORE DAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited for the Queen Bee Market, and at the same time feeling rather stressed and neurotic with last minute preps.

Germs, being the evil little buggers that they are have the worst sense of timing. I was laid up all weekend and the beginning of this week with the flu.

So I'm frantically trying to get the last of my orders off in the mail, and finish up the final details on my displays.

That way I can enjoy this weekend not only at the Queen Bee Market, but today is our 9th wedding anniversary, so Rob is coming with me to Del Mar. We plan to take advantage of a kiddie free weekend, by eating out, and sleeping in!

I did a trial run in my living room setting up my displays and laying out my jewelry to make sure I have everything I need and to get an idea of how long it will take to set up.
I still need to tweak it a bit, but it's coming together nicely :)

At the Queen Bee Market...

I've been a busy little Bee. For every 5 to 10 orders I finish and ship, I take a couple of hours to work on goodies for the market.
I made these beauties last week.
I loooooooooove the hearts! I think they may just have to join my shop. The three above are set with blue topaz, pink sapphire, and garnet.
They can be stamped with words or names, but I decided to keep these gals simple.

Last weekend the kids and I pulled out the craft box, hot glue gun, and felt and made costumes!

They all knew exactly what they wanted to be this year

Megan wanted to be princess, Peach (from super Mario Brothers) She really didn't care what her costume looked like as long as it was pink and her crown was coated in gems

Alexander had his heart set on being Bowser from Super Mario Brothers...boy was that a challenge!
Thomas wanted to be a skeleton

Gabriel wanted to be Mario, from...you guessed it Super Mario Brothers, do we see a little theme?

Kaiya wanted to be a Pirate, and Nathaniel wore the giraffe costume. He was the 5th child to wear it, and none of them would wear the head part of the costume. He screamed just as loud as the others did when we tried.

The Queen Bee!

This little lady buzzed on into my mail box yesterday! I made her just special for the Queen Bee Market.

You're Coming right? She'd really love to meet you there, maybe even fly home with you!

She's very sweet.

I sketched her by hand and sent my drawing off to my tool maker who created a stamp for me, so I can share her with all of you.

This sweet little bee pendant is a good size, 7/8 in (about the size of a Quarter)

She couldn't call her self the Queen Bee with out her pretty little crown, and just because every Queen needs her pearls, a creamy fresh water pearl hangs next to her.

But now I'm in the middle of a surprise pregnancy and the OB practice I am going to is perfectly suited to my situation. I feel so blessed to be here and to have found this office. It's official, I've been in a funk! I don't know what it is. Do you have those days?

We got some unexpected news last week that I'm still processing.

I've pretty much been on my own with the kids these last two weeks. Rob was only home for the kiddies bed time one day these last two weeks. (if you know a single mom, or dad give 'em a huge hug they need it!!)

I've had a cold for over 3 weeks that I can't get rid of.

And...

But rather than continue on with my pity part, and my list of poor me, I'm going to put on my big girl pants, and think of what I'm thankful for, and remember to let go.

Today I am thankful for...

~Cloudy rainy days, I LOVE the rain!
~Peppermint Hot cocoa. (I'm usually a caramel latte kinda gal but chocolate and mint seemed to be in order today)
~Hugs from my 2yr old. The kind where he just squeezes and nuzzles his head into my neck and sighs
~playing dress up with my 4yr old
~inventing silly stories with the boys and laughing
~listening to our oldest excitedly gush about the fact that she made it into the school play!
~being able to create jewelry to share with others.

Brave Soul

If you've been stopping by for a while you know I have a thing for winged hearts.
I love them for so many reasons, and they symbolize so much for me.

This bracelet was sparked the other night as I listened to our 11year old gush on and on about her audition. Our oldest has always been a little on the reserved and shy side. Middle school has encouraged her to come out of her shell a little, and this year she has really begun to bloom.

She was so proud of the fact that she got up in front of her peers and teachers and auditioned for a part in the school play. She shared how scared she was, but she still stepped out on stage and went for it!

We're so proud of you sweetie!!

This bangle is perfect for any brave soul, or may as a reminder to let go of our fears step out and go for it! Couldn't we all use a little extra encouragement in life?

Clouds and Caramel

It's a drizzly gray Sunday here in CA and I'm LOVING it!

I got to snuggle up in my chunky yellow sweater and boots for Church today.

After Mass today I stopped in and got a yummy caramel latte, which I am enjoying sitting here in my cozy bed typing this blog post and updating my shop.

I spent a good part of last night getting to convos and adding in some new items to my etsy shop. Hopefully I can get more items up later tonight.

After I finish this post I am off to help my kiddies create Halloween costumes. Time to unearth the hot glue gun!

Have i ever told you that I Love rings? They are my favorite piece of jewelry to wear.

I can't get enough of my stacking rings! I can mix and match and change them up to fit my mood.

Mini versions of my eclectic Family necklace! Have I mentioned this is my favorite piece to make? I just love love love how each one turns out. Unique, organic, rustic, and chunky!

My weekend will be spent getting orders finished and shipped, preparing for the Holiday Markets, and Making Halloween costumes for my kiddies. I've had a request for Princess Peach, Bowser and Mario...do we sense a theme here? Not sure what the other kids want to be yet.

Personally I love home made costumes, but some years there is just no time!
